Press release, January 26/10, Orillia, ON:
50 giant guitars celebrate 50 years of Mariposa Folk Festival
Streets Alive has an exciting outdoor art exhibit in store for Orillia this summer. Organizers of the annual event celebrating outdoor community art are putting the 2010 spotlight on the incredible achievement of the Mariposa Folk Festival as it marks its 50th anniversary.
The Guitars on Parade event, to be launched June 26 in downtown Orillia, will focus on guitars and their obvious contribution to the Mariposa magic. It will present 50 super-sized guitar sculptures — seven feet tall, to be precise — hand-painted with the designs of local artists. Guitars on Parade is modeled on successful outdoor art projects like Toronto’s Moose in the City and Vancouver’s Orcas in the City.
During the Guitars on Parade launch weekend, visitors to Orillia can view the giant guitars on a walking tour, take in guitar demonstrations, participate in hands-on activities and competitions, and enjoy concerts on the streets of downtown Orillia. The one-of-a-kind guitars, after a brief exhibit at the folk festival, will remain on display in Orillia throughout the summer tourist season.
The seven-foot-tall sculptures are made from a mould, custom-designed in Toronto, that mirrors the design of the Larrivee C-10 vintage cutaway. Larrivee Guitars, the Guitars on Parade official promotional partner, is the Canadian guitar manufacturer of “the finest sounding, finest playing guitar available anywhere.”
Artists were eager to participate in this unique art event, submitting a total of 77 designs to the Guitars on Parade jury. Sixty made it to the final selection round, where 50 sponsors will choose one design each to represent their business or organization as a key supporter of the Guitars on Parade event.
Guitar sponsorships are still available on a first-come basis. To learn about the increased visibility and select benefits that come with these sponsorship opportunities, contact Leslie Fournier at 705 326-4934 or email@example.com, or click here.
