The 2016 Streets Alive project ‘Story Poles in Downtown Orillia’ will feature 32 unique vertical sculptures in the city core, making for a unique and creative outdoor exhibit for the summer of 2016.
Artists will tell a story through their creation that celebrates life in our region —whether it’s about our history, recreation, businesses, culture or community spirit. The Story Poles will be a one-of-a-kind art endeavour that boosts the arts community and enhances cultural tourism for our city.
Artists can use any number of interesting objects, or they may build from scratch using wood, metal, polymers or natural materials. We anticipate seeing a wide variety of artistic media such as painting, carvings, welded features, mosaics and more.
This project is open to artists, builders, craftsmen and creative types from a wide variety of backgrounds — and you don’t need to be from Orillia.
The Story Poles project launches on June 18, 2016, with a grand unveiling and downtown kickoff event featuring art, music and creative interactions.
We invite you to follow the ‘stories’ as they come to life. Check out our Facebook page for frequent updates.
Sponsorship / Ownership of each Story Pole is $1,500. Please contact Leslie at firstname.lastname@example.org.
